Why meaning

A single word can decide who is liable for a breach

Machine translation matches words; legal translation matches obligations. The damage of a bad translation never shows on the invoice — it shows later, before the other party, with interest. That is why we work at the level of meaning: the level mediocre translation breaks, and the level automation still can’t resolve.

"The supplier shall deliver within 30 days."

shall” → a binding, enforceable obligation.

"The supplier may deliver within 30 days."

may” → mere discretion. The difference decides who is liable.

About us

Mariana Porras

Certified official English–Spanish translator and interpreter (Acta No. 287/2026), trained in EN/FR/ES translation at Universidad de Antioquia. Before founding Semántico she worked inside a criminal-defense practice in Texas — translating case files and interpreting attorney–client communication where every nuance is evidence, and interpreting in federal debriefings, information-gathering interviews where accuracy leaves no margin. That experience set the firm’s standard.

The high-value client doesn’t buy translation: they buy the certainty of being understood correctly when the error is costly.

Official registry

A registered, verifiable signature

The official translator’s signature is registered before a notary, which speeds notarial authentication and lets any entity verify that it is current. These are the notaries where the registration is active.

Frequently asked questions

What clients ask before requesting a quote

What is an official translation and when is it required?

It is a translation performed by a State-certified translator, bearing their signature and seal. Embassies, universities, courts and public bodies require it for visas, credential recognition, civil records, powers of attorney and contracts with official validity.

How much does it cost?

Standard official documents (certificates, diplomas, records) from $55,000 COP per page. Specialized legal and technical translation is quoted per word of the source document. Interpreting from $100,000 COP/hour. International clients are quoted in USD on request. A written, fixed-price quote is delivered the same day.

How fast do you deliver?

Standard documents of 1–3 pages: 2–3 business days. Rush work in under 72 hours with a 30% surcharge, provided the timeline still allows certifiable quality.

Do you handle apostille and notarization?

Yes. The “ready-to-file” package includes notarial authentication of the translator’s signature, apostille before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and domestic or international shipping. Third-party costs are passed through at cost, with documentation. The translator’s signature is registered and current at Notaría 31 of the Medellín Circle (Laureles), which speeds authentication.

How do you protect my documents?

All material is treated as confidential by default, with encrypted storage and a document retention and destruction policy. Personal-data processing complies with Colombia’s habeas data regime (Law 1581 of 2012); see the full policy.
