Frequently asked questions

What does Colombia's Ministry of Education require for the translation?

To recognize a higher-education degree, the Ministry asks for the diploma and transcript with an apostille or legalization and, if they are in another language, their translation. For school studies, it asks for a full translation, including seals and legalization certificates.

Does the translation itself need an apostille?

According to Colombia's Ministry of Education, for higher-education recognition the translation does not require an apostille or legalization. The original document does.

Is the diploma's apostille translated too?

For school studies, the Ministry asks for seals and legalization certificates to be translated as well. If the apostille is in another language, include it when you upload your document.

Is homologación the same as convalidación?

In Colombia, the Ministry of Education uses convalidación for the recognition of degrees and studies completed abroad. Many people call it homologación.

How long does the translation take?

It depends on how many documents you have and their length. The delivery date appears in your quote.

Semántico provides translation services, not academic advice. Colombia's Ministry of Education sets and updates the requirements; always check the current information at mineducacion.gov.co.
